The sky was a perfect sky blue, with no clouds at all. There were no chilly winds that sliced through your scales- there was only a light breeze, perfect for coasting on. Nothing marred the day at all. And it was perfectly, perfectly still.
That is, if you didn't count the rowdy group of dragonets hooting and flying around, ruining the perfect moment.
"WHOO-HOO!" yelled Barracuda, somersaulting in the air and coasting to a stop next to Arid. "Wow, feel that air! I'm so glad they chose to go today- the conditions are perfect!"
They would have been perfect, if all of you weren't here. Garnet sniffed and stuffed her talons in her ears. If only I could have made this trip on my own.
Beside him, Ermine rolled her eyes. "You know you're making a fool of yourself."
"I don't care!" Barracuda flipped over on his side and rode the air currents, grinning toothily at Ermine. "I'm having fun! So nothing else matters, right?"
"In the Ice Kingdom, that would have demoted you a few ranks," Ermine frostily informed him, looking down her nose at him.
"Never mind." Ermine resumed looking stiffly at the distant horizon.
"We're almost there." Starflight banked down to hover next to them. "Only a few more miles to go."
"Hooray!" Garnet felt a burst of excitement inside her. Almost to the Sky Kingdom! Almost to her parents, and her majesty, Queen Ruby! "Can we fly faster?"
Starflight shook his head and glanced sympathetically at Newt and Celestial, who were lagging a few dragon tails behind.
Newt winced apologetically. "Um, sorry that I can't keep up...I'm not exactly the world's greatest flyer.
Celestial just nodded hurriedly and flapped faster. As the new replacement for Mightyclaws, who had gone to the rainforest to build houses with his new power, Celestial seemed quiet and unrushed. Garnet thought she liked Celestial better that Mightyclaws, who had seemed depressed and overly obsessed with food.
A few moments passed...then, "Here we are!" Starflight yelled, banking left to swoop over the kingdom.
We're here! yelled Garnet's mind happily. Finally!
The Sky Palace loomed in front of them, emerging from the mountain itself and majestic as ever . Below the palace was the hospital for the war veterans, which was *bustling with activity. Dragons the color of flame and rust swooped all over the palace and below the cliffs, where the normal SkyWing civilians lived and worked. To the left of the palace were the soldier barracks, where Garnet's parents were.
"This is the Sky Kingdom," announced Starflight. "Today, we are going to tour Queen Ruby's palace. I assume you all have your note-taking scrolls?"
The Quartz Winglet all held up their scrolls and ink, which they had borrowed from Jade Mountain to take notes with.
"Good," continued Starflight. "Do not lose your notes. Now, a group of soldiers should be coming to welcome us any moment now. Oh, here they come."
A group of SkyWings had spotted them and were soaring up to greet them.
"Hello!" yelled the first one, a large scarred SkyWing the color of strawberries. He hovered in front of them and shook talons with Starflight. "Starflight, right? From the prophecy?"
"From Jade Mountain Academy," corrected Starflight, reddening slightly. "Yes. This is the Quartz Winglet."
"Welcome!" The big SkyWing let go of Starflight and heartily shook everyone else's talons. "Well, welcome to theSky Kingdom. I'm Twister, and I'm going to be your guide today. Follow me!"
He turned and dove down to the Sky Palace entrance, and his soldiers, Starflight, and the Quartz Winglet all followed.
