Chapter One: Well, This is New...
The Doctor tripped on his way out of the TARDIS, falling flat on the ground.
The Time-Lord looked around, realizing this place was unlike any planet he had ever been on. "Curious. Flying creatures that breathe fire, spiraling rock palaces, and what seems to be a prison in the sky! What civilization could this be?"
He paused, feeling different. He was not in his usual form. The Doctor typically looked human, but was really a Time-Lord, the last of his kind. And he hadn't regenerated, so how could he be different?
Looking down into a puddle, he realized he was now one of the flying creatures.
"GAH!" He jumped back, before gazing at his reflection in the puddle. "Why am I one of these--these--dragons? I suppose it could be a TARDIS malfunction, but why?"
He was right; he really was a dragon. He had long, spiraling horns, humongous wings, thick talons, a long tail with club-like spikes at the end, and orange scales. The Doctor grinned. "Finally, a universe where I'm a ginger."
Another dragon, whom looked similar to him but with different colored scales, landed beside him. "Halt in the name of Queen Ruby!" he said, a scowl upon his face. This dragon's scales were a darker shade of orange, compared to the Doctor's bright orange scales. His eyes were a deep green, locking him in his gaze.
The Doctor stood there, perplexed. "Astounding. You're a dragon, and you can TALK. And I can talk! You creatures are fascinating!"
The other dragon gave him a cold stare. "I don't know what you're on about, but I'll tell you that--that blue box thing, whatever it is, is illegal."
The Time-Lord turned dragon whipped his head around, staring at his beloved time machine. "Really? You've probably seen nothing like it before, but I promise you, the TARDIS is no threat."
"Well..." the dragon, presumably a guard, coughed, trying to think of what to say about that. "Well, it needs to be inspected by Queen Ruby before you can continue."
He tried walking into the time machine, but the Doctor flared his wings open, blocking him. "Look, you can't go in there." If someone were to go into the TARDIS and press a few buttons, who knew what era they'd be sent to?
The dragon roared, a few more guards alighting down beside him. "I'm not afraid of you, whoever you are."
"That wasn't my intention," the Doctor continued. "Give me a moment."
He then went into the TARDIS, rustled about, and popped back out only to see the confused stares of the guards. He then handed a paper to the first guard.
The guard read the paper, then shook his head. "'Head Dragon of All Dragons'? There's no such title."
"Oh." Quickly, the Doctor thought of a better response.
The guard frowned at the Doctor's psychic paper. "Fine, I guess you can come through, if you're meeting with Queen Ruby. BUT--"
The Doctor sighed. "Hold that thought. Besides a dragon, what am I?"
"Part of the SkyWing tribe, unless you're a traitor," the guard said without a second thought. How could this stranger not know what tribe he was from? He couldn't have been a RainWing in disguise, as he didn't have the frill or usual RainWing personality. This dragon was much more eccentric. He continued with his speech. "As I was saying, you'll have to wait before getting a private audience with Her Majesty."
"Hmph. I don't like waiting," the Doctor grumped. He tried to follow the SkyWing on wobbly wings as the guard took off into the air. "The box comes too," he added quickly, motioning to the TARDIS.
The SkyWing guard sighed, waving a talon at his companions, who started heaving the box into the air. "As long as that thing isn't a weapon."
The Doctor laughed, forgetting about his difficulty flying. "A weapon? The TARDIS would never be used as a weapon, and never has. Anyways, I would love to learn all about your society. How do you build such towering palaces? What about humans? Do you have humans? Are you the dominating species here, or..."
The guard covered his ears as the stranger babbled on.
