Great tips, Tui! :D These are really good! I'll be sure to use them. ^u^
I do something similar to a writing log whenever I get writer's block. I just open up a new file and write down whatever I'm thinking, whether or not it has to do with writer's block or the subject I'm writing about. Sometimes it's essays about ancient Mesopotamia, and sometimes it's about why my crackship should be canon. Sometimes it's something absolutely insane, like what I would do if I went to Oz or had superpowers.
Another thing I like to do is listen to a song with that has a similar feel to what I'm trying to write. Whenever I'm writing about my chaotic and highly malevolent RainWing ghost, Fabulous, I listen to Death Waltz, for example. The song fits him perfectly.
Sometimes I'll also try to draw the scene I'm writing, or make a little comic about it. I also complain a lot to my sister. >u<
Or sometimes, when it's 4 in the morning and I'm sitting in bed with a blanket tossed over my head and no longer have boundaries with what I feel comfortable writing, I'll throw all caution and common sense to the wind and open up a new file to write a cliched, self-inserted shipfic. After I've gone as far as I can, I read over it and immediately cringe at how awful it is. I think about how I know I can do better than that, and use that thought to fuel myself.
