Changeling: And Then Many Ominous Things Happen
Changeling woke up feeling very groggy with a horrible headache. She then became aware of something sticky binding her arms and legs together. She opened her eyes and found herself lying in an enormous spiderweb, with a doll next to her. And then the doll turned.
Changeling would have screamed if not for the web binding her mouth...and the rest of her body. She still managed to make a severely muffled sound though. The doll tilted it’s head at her. It was covered in stitched up wounds.
That didn’t look right right to her. Without thinking, Changeling closed her eyes and imagined small glowing lights getting rid of the stitches and magically getting rid of the holes.
And then laughter broke Changeling’s concentration.
She opened her eyes and found herself face to face with a pale skinned black haired girl. The girl had glittering black eyes. And she also had four of them. Along with two extra pairs of arms.
“I don’t believe it.” The girl said, in a high, elegant voice. It reminded Changeling of spiders. “Never in my life have I ever seen such a stupid soul-stealer. What kind of person heals the wounds of their captors? And how are you doing that through the drugs anyway? They’re supposed to block that kind of power.” Changeling turned towards the doll. It was facing her.
“It needs a face.” Changeling mumbled. Though the web muffled all the words. The girl frowned and cut away the webs binding her mouth with a claw-like finger.
“It needs a face.” Changeling said again.
“Mirella, what do you think?” The girl asked the doll. “Do you think you need a face?” The doll didn’t respond. The girl looked severely disappointed.
“That’s the wrong question.” Changeling blurted. “It should be do you want a face.” The girl studied Changeling for a moment before asking the question to the doll. The doll nodded hesitantly. The girl broke into a grin, showing razor sharp fangs.
“I do wish I could keep you.” The girl said to Changeling. “But my grandmother wants you. And only idiots disobey grandmother.”
“I don’t want to be kept like a pet.” Changeling said. “Can’t I go back to the library? I love it there.”
“You don’t understand.” The girl said. “My grandmother wants to eat you.”
Charles felt along the dark corridor, wishing he could see in the dark. That would help things a bit. He clutched his package tighter, praying that he didn’t fall. No damage could ever come to this precious item.
Why was he so desperate to help Changeling anyway? The library was his home, and by trying to save Changeling, he was putting the library at great risk. The girl had a strange aura of power. Something that drew people and and animals to her. It made people want to help her. Was this the dangerous magic of a Soul-stealer? Or something else...Something far more powerful and menacing.
But as he walked along the corridor, he stayed completely unaware of the delicate threads he had broken. Threads meant to alert Spirella of intruders.
Meanwhile, back at the library, the robot Charles had been working on blinked awake. Something had given it the necessary energy to live. The only question was, was who was responsible for the energy? And what kind of energy was it?
In the shadows, a man smiled. Everything was falling into place. Like a game of four in a row, or that other really cheap one you could find at a dollar store. Not Chess though. This villain despised Chess. He frowned and disappeared. He’d done enough menacing grinning in the shadows for one day. For now, he needed to plan a few more things. Such as how he was going to destroy the indestructible chess board he’d found.
Yeah, sorry about the short chapter. But yay! I managed to finish it!!! Random note: If Spirella's grandmother ate Changeling, it wouldn't count as cannibalism because the grandmother's a spider.
Also, sorry, I had to completely spit in the face of that supervillains loving chess steriotype.
(Mods please let this through)
