Cliff and Auklet should DEFINITELY go together! I'd love to see what would come of two royal prince/princesses of different tribes together. It would be extremely interesting!
I also love Topaz's ideas, and have a few of my own!
The Hogwarts house thing would be very interesting, but wouldn't it be a little... cliche? If I were writing this, it would feel like I was copying J.K. Rowling! I wouldn't want that!
So, instead of dragonets being sorted, perhaps they could be "chosen?" They could draw from something like a circle of stones - kind of like Secret Santa, if you know what I'm talking abouy. Instead, they could draw for a winglet! The thing written could be anything - a name, a title for the winglet, a cave number - the possibilities are endless!
I think my favorite idea for the drawing thing would be a winglet name - i.e. "Jade Winglet" written on a piece of a scroll.
A fun idea SEPARATE from drawing names would be a competition! Dragonets attending the school could be asked to perform a series of both academic and physical activities, and they could be placed in a winglet that way. The winglets could either be ranked from highest scores to lowest, OR the dragonets could be placed with similarly performing dragonets. I really like this idea, as it would be somewhat fun to read this. As a reader, I think this would grab my attention as an opening to a book.
Here's another thought - what if winglet names were recycled - like hurricane names? For example, the original winglets could be discarded and not used again for another seven years. New winglet names would replace them. A few winglet names I like are gem names, such as "Ruby," and "Sapphire."
But my favorite custom winglet name is "Emerald."
The Emerald Winglet just has an appealing ring to it, you know?
