and i mean an irl friend.
yes, i know, internet friends are great! they can empathize with you and talk you through things, but realize: can an internet friend hug you? can an internet friend eat ice cream and watch movies with you? can an internet friend stay there, be there, remain by your side as long as they can manage?
i fully realized this a while ago, not long after my sister Sam told me herself that it's nice to have an irl friend there.
some of you may know that i love hugs. to be held, to have someone to anchor you to Earth through touch, even the quickest of embraces -- it's possibly one of the most comforting feelings, and that's why i cherish them so much.
sure, there are people who may not like to be touched, but at least they can still be there for you. at least they can talk to you, and you can reassure yourself that they mean their words by the sound of their voices. at least you have a friendly face looking at you, rather than words on a screen.
so, just as the title says, a friend is perhaps the best thing you can have.
so, please, cherish yours.
