life threatening subzero temps are set to strike for a few weeks so:
Wear shoes with grips.
DO NOT WEAR JEANS.
Do not drink cold drinks- heat them if you need to. Drink warm drinks.
Wear multiple layers of thick, heat keeping clothing.
If you start feeling warm (more than normal), call 911. That's hypothermia and it can kill you.
Carry blankets with you. Carry things that keep warm with you.
STAY AWAY FROM WATER BODIES. YOU CAN AND WILL FALL IN.
Keep your limbs close to your body. Keep others close to your body. Huddle.
Pay attention to how cold it feels.
DON'T TOUCH METAL. YOUR SKIN WILL FREEZE TO IT AND YOU ARE MORE LIKELY TO RIP THE LIMB OFF THAN GET THE LIMB BACK. FIND SOMETHING HOT TO BURN THE LIMB AWAY FROM THE METAL.
Eyes/Ears/Nose/Fingers/Toes are vital. Wrap them up. Wear scarves.
Know where your local libraries/shelters are.
Sleep as much as you can during the day- even if you're in your house. The night is much colder, and the heat you get from sleeping during the day will keep you alive during the night.
Try to exercise during the night. Something simple, like starjumps. This will raise your body temp and will keep you from freezing.
